Eli Manning is a nice guy. So is his brother Peyton. Conventional wisdom says, "Nice Guys Finish Last". Not in 2007 and 2008. These two brothers are back to back Super Bowl Champs and MVPs. I'm glad. The hype over the "perfect" Patriots was old before the game even started. And Bill Belichick and Tom Brady don't exactly have reputations as nice guys. Belichick showed he was willing to embrace the not so nice tactic of cheating early in the 'perfect' season and Tom Brady's apparent snub of Eli's friendly greeting before the game seemed consistent with the traditional ‘it’s all about me’ philosophy celebrities and sports figures are tempted to buy into in our culture. This is where the Manning family stands out. In an interview with Eli Manning aired on Fox before the game, he was asked what his father, Archie Manning, a pro quarterback in his own day, taught him. Eli's response was simply, he taught us to be nice, to respect others, win or lose to shake hands...etc. Some might say that's all corny and "nice". I say it's cool!
